Endi Kriger
In 1987,
Endi Kriger, a 32-year-old
currency trader at Bankers Trust followed closely currencies, rising against the dollar after the
market crash of "Black Monday."
Investors and companies get rid of dollars and buy other currencies that are less affected by the
market collapse. However, in this regard, some currencies were too overpriced, creating an excellent opportunity for arbitrage.
Currency chosen by Krieger, was the New Zealand dollar, known as the "Kiwi". Using a relatively new technique that became available thanks to options, Krieger opened a short position against the kiwi, worth several hundred million dollars. In fact, the volume
of orders was more of a sell aggregate New Zealand. Kiwi slumped under selling pressure and amid a lack of
currency in circulation. He hesitated in the red -3% -5% when Krieger made millions of dollars for their employers.
